Glass Flamework

The art journey is evolutionary with one thing leading to another. I look back and see how working with beads, as in beadwork, stitching hundreds of tiny beads together in particular patterns, led on to bead making as in Flamework (lampwork) and actually making the beads, not the small ones, but the larger ones for jewellery.

The jewellery making journey lead on to metal work and wirework, although flamework led to sculptural work that opened doors for other types of sculptures, using wood and materials found along the coastline where I live.

The different materials I am working with now include stone, wood and dried elements from nature such as kelp rods, fungi and lichens all find their way into my work along with the glass beads or borosilicate forms I make.

After meeting Lora Murphy and inviting her to take over the Essence of Mulranny workshops in our new space, my work has added the wonderful medium of encaustics as well, and once more I progress my work into new directions using glass as the main attraction.
